Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi.

We know the end of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. We know that Star Wars: A New Hope begins. It was ripe to be at the center of Disney+'s new Star Wars show, Obi-Wan Kenobi, because it was so obvious and yet so overlooked.

The producer and director of the show confirmed to io9 that Obi-Wan believes he killed Anakin at the end of Revenge of the Sith. On the show, he doesn't know if Anakin is still alive.

That means there is a moment where Obi-Wan learns that his former apprentice, who turned to the Dark Side, is a man whose children he is hiding. Thecrucial piece of information is one example of a transformation that she and writer Joby Harold were excited to dive into.

One of the biggest questions Joby and I were always asking was, "How did he go from the end of Revenge of the Sith where he was screaming on the banks of Mustafar to sort of the calm?"

There is also the end of the story to think about. 45 years ago, audiences saw Darth Vader acknowledge not having felt Obi-Wan in a very long time, as well as their final dual, where Vader says, "I have been waiting for you, Obi-Wan." We meet again. The circle is complete. When I left you, I was the learner, now I'm the master, and we asked how much consideration was put into making sure those two moments don't lose their power or meaning now that we know Vader and Kenobi met.

It's not something you do lightly, she said. We are trying to do a character show. It's called Obi-Wan. We were looking at him and wondering what had been important in his life. We're coming out of Revenge of the Sith, where is he? It just felt natural that the weight of Order 66 and Anakin would be part of the series. It is so connected to where he is at this moment.

The show hopes to give fans a new perspective on one of their favorite characters. There isn't that much we know about him.

We will learn a lot more about Obi-Wan when he begins on Disney+ next week. We will have more from Deborah Chow soon.
