Vangelis, who was born with the name Papathanass, rose to worldwide renown for his Chariots Of Fire theme, a motivational piece of music. He won the Oscar for Best Original Score in 1982. The soundtrack of the movie was nominated for a record of the year award. Vangelis was a member of the band Aphrodite's Child. Some of his solo works were also released. The theme song to the PBS show was Heaven and Hell.
