It is hard to overstate how messed up pugs are.

Researchers from the UK's Royal Veterinary College published findings on pug health yesterday in a journal, and they found that pugs that are too big for their skulls can barely breathe.

Humans bred them into this grotesque form for their cuteness.

Several severe health issues are linked to the extreme body shape of Pugs that many humans find so cute, according to the lead study author.

Surprise, Surprise

Many people in the dog breeding and rescue communities have voiced concerns about the lack of pug health.

An anonymous writer called pugs an "anatomical disaster" in the Guardian in 2016 and called on vets to speak out even if it cost them business. Pugs are high-risk in terms of health and something should be done about it. The British Veterinary Association president said not buying pugs from breeders is a start to solve the problem.

Maybe it's not a surprise that we're causing the largest mass extinction event since the time of the dinosaurs because we're hooked.
