The CW decided to take on another long-running show after axing a lot of shows. The seventh season of the teen drama series, which began as a steamy, dark soap opera spin on the Archie comics, but has become more and more absurd as the show has continued, will be the last, according to Deadline.

The actors were ready to move on from the show. Cole Sprouse, who plays Jughead on the show, said in an interview that the cast is ready to move on. Willa Bennet writes, "After six seasons of increasingly complicated storylines and hijinks, most of the actors are ready to wrap it up with a bow and move on with their lives."

The show has gone from a relatively grounded drama of season one, where the teenage Archie was secretly sleeping with his high school music teacher and his classmates were murdered, to this seventh season, which not only ventured into a parallel universe but has currently given the main cast powers.

The CW has announced that it will be ending Riverdale. Charmed and Roswell aren't going forward, as well as comic book adaptions like Batwoman, and Naomi, have all been struck from the production schedule. Most of the cancellation have been related to mergers and money.
