Google Photos update fixes one of its most annoying quirks for years

• Google Photos has picked up a pair of updates, both on Android and the web.
• You can now delete a photo directly from within an album on Android.
• A new date overlay has been added to the desktop version.

The lack of a straightforward way to remove a file from within an album is one of the annoying quirks of the service. A new update addresses that problem.

According to Artem Russakovskii, the ability to trash a photo directly from within an album was spotted by the founder of the Android Police. The last option in the action bar is the "move to trash" button, which is displayed in an info sheet that can be swiped up.

You could only remove a file from an album, but not completely remove it. You would have to find it in a mountain of media files before you can trash it from the library.

It is a feature that is needed and should provide some relief. There is a big catch. The only way to remove a file from a shared album is through the old method of trashing a file from within a private album.

The iOS version of the app already allows users to remove photos from private and shared albums. It is not clear why it took so long for the button to be added to one of the best photo editing apps forANDROID. It is still a welcome change despite its late arrival.

There is a new date in the top left corner of the Photos tab on the web. The time when a photo or video was taken is indicated by the overlay. Older dates are marked as such.

The location is shown at the bottom of the action bar. It shows where an image was taken.

The Photos service has received new updates. New methods for managing on-device files and images stored in the cloud were some of the new features gained by Photos in March.
