Early on in Russia's invasion of Ukraine, YouTube demonetised Russian state-owned channels and restricted access to them from within the country. The Russian government accused Google of serving ads that contained false information about the invasion, prompting the company to suspend all advertising in the country.

Even after the closing of its Russian office, the company has pledged that its services will still operate in Russia.

It isn't clear what reason the Russian government gave for seizing the bank account. Further clarification has been reached out to Google by Mashable.

It seems that pausing most of its Russian commercial operations to stop ads about Ukraine may not have been enough to secure a place in the Russian government's good books.
