Jofra Archer will miss the entire season because of a stress fracture in his back.

It is another blow for the player, who has not played since last July because of two elbow operations.

He was on track in his recovery and was hoping to play cricket this month, but he felt a twinge in his back last week.

He will miss the T20 World Cup in Australia this autumn and there is no timetable for his return.

It is the seventh injury to an England pace bowler in the last year, with seven of them ruled out of the first Test against New Zealand.

Four of the other six have back injuries.

This new blow will be a concern for Archer, who is facing more than a year on the sidelines.

He was called up just before the World Cup, and he helped England win the final against New Zealand.

Steve Smith was struck on the helmet by a ferocious spell of bowling by him in the Test match against Australia in the summer of 2000.

In 13 Tests, 17 one-dayers and 12 T20s for England, Archer has 86 international strikeouts.

He was named the Most Valuable Player in the Indian premier league in 2020.
