Ian Cole scored a goal in the first game of the Carolina Hurricanes' series against the New York Rangers.

He now has two. Cole scored at 3:12 of overtime to give the Hurricanes a 2-1 come-from-behind overtime win over the Rangers, taking a 1-0 series lead in Raleigh. He became an unlikely hero in the process.

The game is great because you don't know who is going to be the guy. He has that moment forever.

In overtime, Brendan Smith snapped a shot from near the blue line that was blocked by Jacob Trouba. Cole was deep in the zone.

We had some extended zone time there. I was looking for someone to pass to. Cole said that he decided to throw it on the net to see what would happen.

His shot went off of Ryan Lindgren and past Shesterkin for the game-winner.

Hockey is a game of bounces. Cole said that it was not the prettiest, but they would take it.

Cole was mobbed by his teammates as the crowd was in a frenzy. Cole has four career game-winning goals in the regular season, but this was the first time he has been in that position. Cole said it was a little claustrophobic being in the middle of the chaos.

Visor got a little foggy. I had hair in my face. Couldn't see anything.

After the Rangers dominated most of the game, it was a stunning rally by the Hurricanes. Sebastian Aho tied the game with . Raanta made 27 saves in the game.

He kept us in the game for two periods. We had a chance to get back. Cole said that it was all you could ask from a goalie.

Cole gave the Hurricanes everything they wanted.

He scored the first goal in the Stanley Cup Final for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Cole said the Hurricanes are trying to win the Cup.

He said that it was not about this game but about building towards that journey.
