The NBA fined the Dallas Mavericks for violating bench decorum for the second time this playoffs.
The league office fined the Phoenix Suns $50,000 for violating the rules during their 123-90 Game 7 win on Sunday.
Several players and a member of the coaching staff stood away from the team bench and were on the court during the victory, according to a statement from the league office.
I know about the fine. We are trying to figure out why we were fined. Who complained? The fans were not complaining because it was a big win. I thought the guys did what they were supposed to do. They were cheering. We will find out what the fine is. It is what it is.
The Mavs were fined $25,000 on May 6 for similar violations that occurred during their Game 2 loss to the Suns. Theo Pinson, injured guard Tim Hardaway Jr., and the rest of the bench were not going to be toned down by the Mavs, even though Dallas considers team chemistry an essential ingredient of their success.
Kidd said that the league was worried about the wrong thing. This society does not happen. A teammate cheering on another teammate is special. Sometimes we focus on the wrong thing. When you look at people who make a lot of money cheering on their teammates or their employees, that is what sport is all about. For us to be fined is cool. It is going to a charity. We are looking at the wrong thing.
