The white supremacist who shot and killed three people in Buffalo this weekend said that all of the popular websites played a role.

New York Attorney General Letitia James wants to know what role each one played.

On Wednesday, James announced on her verified account that she was launching an investigation into those four platforms, as well as any other online space that was used by the shooter to carry out his attack that left 10 people dead and 3 more injured.

The Buffalo shooter used to plan, promote, and stream his terror attack on social media.

The Great Replacement is a right wing, white supremacist conspiracy theory that was shared by the shooter. Details about how he planned and carried out his attack were included. He was radicalized on 4chan in 2020. Other white supremacist mass shooters have used that website to distribute their manifestos prior to their attacks. The shooter in Buffalo used 8chan to share his plans.

The shooter used fringe websites and two popular mainstream services. The shooter used the platform as a diary, sharing his thoughts that would turn into fatal reality just this past weekend. Some of his messages were posted a long time ago.

In a statement provided to Mashable, a Discord spokesman said that hate has no place on the platform and that they are committed to fighting violence and extremism.

The suspect created a private invite-only server to serve as a diary chat log, and a small group of people were present 30 minutes prior to the attack. Our records show that no one else saw the diary chat log before that.

The shooter used the streaming service to broadcast his act on video. The stream ended around 10 minutes later.
