When the Cowboys placed the franchise tag on the tight end, they created a window to negotiate a long-term contract with him, and they are interested in making an extension work.

A long-term deal is on the table over the next two months, according to Jeremy Fowler.

The two sides have until July 15 to reach an agreement. The franchise tender for tight ends is $10.9 million, and if they don't, Schultz will play the upcoming season on it.

He is just 25 years old and the Cowboys are looking to keep him in the fold long-term.
