Ivan Kuliak

The ability of the sports world to keep going through societal decay is either sad or brave depending on how you frame it. The story of the Ukrainian national team playing through an invasion and the Black athletes being asked to perform in front of white people a day after a racially motivated mass shooting is often not the same as the athletes.

What should they say? Should they not attend a game? Should they walk out hours before a live event?

When Ivan Kuliak decided to tape his country's pro-war symbol to his leotard and parade up to the podium to accept his bronze medal, he didn't leave. Thepathetic people agreed that this guy is better suited for a villain in a movie than as a human. Kuliak was reprimanded by the Disciplinary Commission of the Gymnastics Ethics Foundation for violating the rules of the International Gymnastics Federation.

I'm not here to criticize the GEF or the FIG, because the bureaucracy takes a long time to play out. I'm not sure why they had to find a rule that he violated, but it is a little ridiculous that it took this long. Is there anyone on any of the panels? Even if they've never actually watched it, Ivan being used by his country to push an agenda didn't sound familiar.

Sorry, but I'm not sure what to say. Kuliak will have to sit out until May 17, 2023, if the ban continues past that date, and he will have to wait another six months after that. He wrote that the IOC is the standard bearer for thoroughly thought-out suspensions and bans, so he wrote that the FIG needed to be advised to ban those athletes. The IOC has a breaking point somewhere between state-run drug scandals and a genocidal maniac.

The ban, along with the return of the bronze medal and winnings, is what has to be paid for. That is what took so long. Why didn't I think of that? I knew someone wanted to give a lecture, and proceedings were the perfect place for that. Parenthetical sentences are a great way to extend a topic you thought was over.

I mentioned before I left that he was being used by his country. I'm not letting him off the hook because he knows not what he says. He said he would do the same thing if given the chance, according to Russia Today.

I looked at the symbol after seeing it with our military. It means victory and peace.

I showed my position and didn't wish anything bad on anyone. I will always fight for victory and stand for peace as an athlete.

Ivan, you might have wanted the Russian stooge to read that last quote back to you. Fight and peace are used in the same sentence.

The only positive aspect of this is that there was no discussion about whether or not to ban him. It was black and white and pretty peaceful.
