The Honda Prologue electric SUV is the company's first battery-electric vehicle to be sold in the US. It has been slow to roll out an EV strategy as compared to its rivals, and the company has promoted its hybrid vehicles as a way to address questions.
The Prologue will be the first of two vehicles that Honda is co-developing with General GM. The Acura vehicle will be developed with GM, but the company hasn't revealed any new information about it at this time. Honda says it will release 30 hybrid, battery-electric, and fuel-cell vehicles by 2030.
Honda is building a variety of EV architectures that will be used in these vehicles. The Honda Prologue and Acura EV will be powered by GM's Ultium platform, which also powers the Hummer EV pickup truck and the Cadillac Lyriq SUV.
Honda’s other EVs will be built on the Honda e architecture, which the company plans to introduce in 2026
The Honda E architecture will be used to build Honda's other EVs. Honda plans to roll out a slate of EV's, including a compact SUV. The new EV architecture it is co-developing with GM will be used in those vehicles.
American Honda Motor has a goal of selling 300,000 Prologue SUVs in the US by the year 2026, according to Mamadou Diallo, vice president of sales. The company wants 40 percent of its sales to be comprised of battery-electric and fuel-cell vehicles by 2030.
The Honda E city car is a design inspiration for the Prologue. Honda is stressing the length of the vehicle that extends beyond its wheelbase. The Honda Design Studio in Los Angeles collaborated with a design team in Japan on the Prologue.
We wanted to make sure that the Prologue looked right at home in the showroom and that it was a true Honda EV.
Honda's current electric lineup is very limited. The company discontinued its Clarity EV, but will still sell hydrogen and plug-in hybrid versions of the vehicle. The Honda E is only available in Europe and Japan.
