According to Jeremy Fowler, the Washington Commanders have earmarked funds for an extension for Terry McLaurin.

Fowler reported Wednesday that Washington spent mildly in free agency in part because it has a plan to re-sign McLaurin.

He has caught 222 passes for 3,090 yards and 16 touchdown in three seasons with Washington. If the Commanders had continuity at quarterback, his numbers would have been even better. They have used eight different players since 2019.

While he hasn't positioned himself to be the highest-paid wideout in the league, he is poised to cash in on the receiver spending bonanza. The extensions for A.J. Brown are reasonable targets for him in negotiations with Washington.

Fowler's report will be a positive development for fans because the lack of an agreement was bound to cause some concern. The MMQB's Albert Breer painted a worrying picture when he reported last week that the contract was "nowhere" and that negotiations haven't really started.

The same thing could happen with the Commanders if they reach an impasse with their team.

Penn State's Jahan Dotson was selected by the Commanders in the first round of the NFL draft. They may not have done that with the intention of having Dotson replace McLaurin, who they consider a true cornerstone and team leader.

Fans will not be easy to please until the extension is confirmed.
