The latest version of the Fire 7 was announced by Amazon. The company is promising a longer battery life for the tablet, but it is slightly more expensive.
Amazon's Fire tablets have served as a cheaper alternative to Apple's iPad, but it isn't a huge business segment for Amazon. Amazon's hardware products serve as a gateway into the company's services, such as the voice assistant and music, books and apps.
The screen and camera of the last version of the Fire 7 weren't very sharp. The new model has a 40% longer battery life for up to 10 hours of browsing, but it didn't make any changes to the display or camera.
The Fire 7 has a 30% faster processor that should make it feel more responsive, according to Amazon. The base version of the device has 16 gigabytes of storage, which is enough for most people who just need a budget device to browse and download movies, but you can add your own memory card to increase the storage. It swaps a dated charging port for a newer one.
The new Fire 7 will be available for pre-order on Wednesday. It comes in black, denim and rose colors with coordinating covers.
The new version of Fire 7 Kids comes with a year of Amazon Kids+ and is available in red, blue or purple. The device will be available on June 29 at a starting price of $109.99.
