The Omen 16 and Victus 15 are getting a minor refresh. The new Omen 16 ships with support for the latest Intel 12th Gen processors as well as the option to go with the Ryzen 6000 H-series. It can support up to 150W of maximum graphics power, along with up to 32GB ofDDR5 RAM, and fast PCIe 4.0 solid state drives.
This year's Omen 16 is the same thickness, width, depth, and height as the previous year's model. The trackpad is a little wider now. Sadly, this model still has a large chin near the hinge. It is an FHD 60Hz panel by default, but can be upgraded to a QHD 165Hz display option.
If you opt for an Intel-based machine, the I/O selection will include two Thunderbolt 4 ports, three USB-A ports, and one HDMI 2.1 port. The new Omen will be available at HP.com and Best Buy.
The HP Victus 15 gaming laptop is a lower-cost option for people looking for something more affordable than the Omen. The company focused on updating the internals of the Victus 15, instead of focusing on external changes. TheVictus model can be configured up to the RTX 3060, but it can only be equipped with the 3050 Ti processor if you choose to. The Victus 15 is expected to launch this summer at a starting price of $799.99.
I'm not sure why HP decided to make changes to its Omen and Victus lineups. There is nothing wrong with iterating on hardware, but neither seems to be moving forward in a meaningful or unique way. We hope to test them out later in the year to see if they are worth keeping an eye on.
