The most dramatic primary night so far was Tuesday.

Voters in Idaho, Kentucky and Oregon went to the polls, as well as voters in Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

The GOP Senate primary in Pennsylvania has yet to be decided, with TV personality Mehmet Oz and businessman David McCormick only a hair apart in the early hours of Wednesday.

Here are the winners and thelosers.

People who won.

John Fetterman is the lieutenant governor.

From his hospital bed, Fetterman was the clear winner of the night.

Fetterman had a pacemaker fitted on Tuesday after he had a stroke on Friday. The candidate says he did not have any cognitive damage from his stoke.

His health drama did not affect his electoral performance. Fetterman had racked up more than twice as many votes as his nearest rival, Rep. Lamb, by midnight.

Fetterman's shaven-headed appearance and penchant for dressing in shorts and hoodies made him a striking victory.

Fetterman's victory gave the left a much-needed boost because he leans toward the more progressive side of the Democratic Party.

He will have to wait to see who he will face in November, but his margin of victory on Tuesday shows that he is popular among his party's base.

Election denialism.

One of the more emphatic results of the night was that of state Sen. Doug Mastriano, who became the GOP's gubernatorial nominee in Pennsylvania.

He came to Washington on January 6, 2021, though he has said he did not enter the Capitol.

Had the insurrection succeeded, the election result in Pennsylvania would likely have been overturned.

The Democrats are not alarmed by Mastriano's beliefs because they know that Attorney General Josh Shapiro will defeat the Republican in the election.

Mastriano's victory shows how the fictions spread by former President Trump have been accepted by Republican voters.

An Economist/YouGov poll last week indicated that 76 percent of GOP voters think President Biden was not the real winner of the 2020 election.

The Democrats are progressive.

Tuesday was shaping up to be a good night for the left of the Democratic Party.

In Pennsylvania's 12th district, a left-wing candidate, Summer Lee, was holding onto a small lead over a centrist candidate.

Early returns from the Democratic primary in Oregon's 5th district showed progressive favorite Jamie McLeod-Skinner pulling ahead of incumbent Rep. Kurt Schrader.

It will be cause for jubilation on the left and embarrassment at the White House if McLeod-Skinner pulls off the victory. President Biden was in favor of Schrader.

GOP House leadership and Sen. Tillis.

Despite being endorsed by Trump, Rep. Madison Cawthorn was defeated in his primary by a state senator.

The intervention that paid off was supported by Sen. Tillis.

There won't be many tears shed by GOP leaders in Washington over Cawthorn's loss.

The emergence of photos of him dressed in women's lingerie and his assertion that he had been invited to orgies made Cawthorn a problem for GOP leadership.

Kevin McCarthy said after the controversy that he lost his trust in the freshman congressman.

It was mixed.

The former President of the United States.

It was a mixed night for Trump.

One blow was Cawthorn's defeat.

There was uncertainty in the Pennsylvania Senate primary. Oz was supported by Trump. The TV personality will win by the skin of his teeth.

Other, more favorable results can be pointed out by Trump.

Ted Budd won the GOP Senate primary in North Carolina with ease.

Mastriano is cut from very Trump-like cloth because Trump left it very late to endorse him in the Pennsylvania gubernatorial primary.

It was a night that saw Trump's hold on the GOP appear not quite as strong as had been thought.

The Democratic general election hopes.

Democrats had hoped that Kathy Barnette's late surge in the Pennsylvania GOP Senate primary would propel her to victory.

Barnette's history of inflammatory statements and lack of political experience made her the easiest candidate to defeat.

They ended up with either Oz or McCormick, who are likely to be tougher adversaries.

Democrats believe Mastriano's victory in the governor's race gives them a real opening.

People who are winners.

Rep. Madison Cawthorn is from North Carolina.

One of the biggest headlines of the night was the defeat of the congressman.

The dynamics behind that defeat have been mentioned, but it was still a remarkable fall for the pro-Trump provocateur.

If he wants a prominent place in the conservative media after Congress, he can easily find it. His primary defeat before his first term is out must surely be a bitter pill.

Rep. Lamb is from Pennsylvania.

Lamb was a rising star in the Democratic Party.

He became a congressman at the age of 33 in a special election.

Lamb's military record and moderation were seen as an ideal recipe to win competitive districts.

The congressman did not gain traction in the Senate race.

He entered the race six months after Fetterman. It seemed as if Democratic primary voters weren't buying the conventional centrism that Lamb represents.

Less than an hour after polls closed, the Associated Press called the race for Fetterman, an embarrassment for Lamb.

Kathy Barnette is a person.

Barnette looked like the woman of the moment in the final stretch of the GOP Pennsylvania Senate primary.

There were real chances of a Barnette victory as Tuesday began.

She didn't come close.

There is clarity.

It was difficult to draw clear lessons from Tuesday's results because of the lack of results in some places.

Some places mattered more than others because of Trump's endorsement.

Mastriano's ticket to victory was an ultra-MAGA approach.

The night was a reminder that the dynamics of each individual race can affect the outcome of the election.
