The Wall Street Journal and ABC News reported that the crash of the China Eastern Airlines plane may have been intentional.
According to The Journal, the data recovered from the black box suggests that someone in the cockpit sent the plane into a descent.
An unnamed source told The Journal that the plane did what it was told to do.
The plane was cruising at a steady altitude and speed before it descended from 29,000 feet on March 12. It crashed into a mountainside in southern China.
US officials were invited to participate in the crash investigation because the plane was made in the US.
There is a possibility that someone else on the plane barged into the cockpit and caused the crash, The Journal reported.
According to ABC News, investigators believe one of the pilots may have been struggling with certain issues right before the crash. ABC News did not say what those issues were.
US officials told ABC News that the plane would have required intentional force to nosedive. The officials said that the landing gear was not put down.
According to ABC News, no mechanical issues have been reported with the flight.
One of the most-used plane models on the planet is the Boeing 737, and it is also one of the safest.
The China Eastern Airlines plane that crashed in March was a newer version of the Boeing plane.
