Boston Red Sox starter Nathan Eovaldi allowed five home runs in a row, becoming the third pitcher in major league history to allow five home runs in a row.

In his first start at Boston'sFenway Park, he allowed eight hits and six earned runs while striking out none. In the second, after working a three-up, three-down first, Eovaldi allowed homers to Yuli Gurriel, Michael Brantley, Jeremy Pena, Kyle Tucker and Yordan Alvarez as Houston raced out to a 9-1 lead.

Reliever Tyler Danes was called upon by Alex to finish the job. It was the first time in team history that Boston had allowed five homers in the same frame.

The Red Sox advanced to the American League Championship Series as a result of the strong campaign of Eovaldi. He allowed 15 homers in 32 starts last season, but so far this season he has allowed 14.

A number of Red Sox veterans are struggling in the early going. Boston, which defeated the Astros 6-3 on Monday in the series opener, began Tuesday at 14-21, a half-game out of last place in the American League East.

Chase Anderson and Michael Blazek were the other two pitchers.
