The Associated Press reported that Fetterman defeated Lamb to become the Democratic nominee for the open Senate seat in Pennsylvania.
The race for Fetterman was called by the AP. 25% of the vote was counted.
Fetterman had 55.2% of the vote, well ahead of Lamb who had 30.4%.
The Senate seat is open because of Pat Toomey's retirement.
The GOP Pennsylvania Senate primary has not yet been called.
Fetterman is known for his unconventional look for a politician, but the tattooed lieutenant governor who wore gym shorts on the campaign trail was a hit with Democratic primary voters. Fetterman positioned himself to the left of Lamb. The lieutenant governor has endorsed many progressive positions, like raising the minimum wage and legalization of marijuana.
The open Pennsylvania seat may be the best chance for Democrats to flip a Senate seat that was previously held by a Republican. The Pennsylvania Senate race is rated a tossup by The Cook Politico Report, Crystal Ball, and RealClearPolitics.
Fetterman was unable to campaign in the final days before the election because of a stroke. Fetterman said he felt better and was on his way to a full recovery.
In shorts, just a dude became a Senate front-runner.
