The current phase of workouts for the Cincinnati Bengals was not the same as last spring.

A year ago, the last-place team in the North was trying to make the playoffs. By the end of the season, the Bengal were in position to win their first-ever Super Bowl.

In his first news conference since the Super Bowl loss, Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow said the playoffs will give them the confidence to make another run.

Going into last year, we knew we were good, but we weren't sure what it took.

We know what it takes and we have experience in our back pockets going forward.

This week marked the beginning of phase 2 of voluntary workouts, a three-week period that allows coaches to work with players during on-field drills. Since the best season in three decades ended with a 23-20 loss to the Rams, the team has not worked together.

Cincinnati hadn't made the playoffs since 2015 and hadn't won a playoff game in more than two decades.

He said he watched the Super Bowl again and felt the same way he has felt throughout his career. The team's experience in the playoffs gave them confidence for the future, according to Cincinnati wide receiverMarr Chase.

Chase said Tuesday that they need to have the expectation that they are one of the best in the league.

The franchise has won three conference championship in a row, matching the 1981 and 1988 seasons. Cincinnati has not been able to sustain success in the playoffs. In back-to-back seasons, the Bengals have never won a playoff game.

After a season in which Cincinnati upended so many negative trends, they will have another mark to smash to remain a Super Bowl contender.

We know what it takes to get back to that point. That is our standard now. That is our standard for this team. Ain't no looking back.
