The 2003 League of Extraordinary Gentlemen film didn't work out for a franchise, so Twentieth Century Studios decided to go with streaming. There have been attempts at television shows before, notably one in 2013 that didn't make it past a pilot, and even another film, but the property has seen its fair share of development hell. One might wonder if Alan Moore's dislike for Hollywood mining his works has anything to do with that.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, another attempt may actually happen. This time it's a feature at Hulu, from writer Justin Haythe, who will be the latest to attempt to adapt the acclaimed comic from writer Moore and artist Kevin O' Neill. The 2003 movie was produced by Don Murphy and starred the late Sean Connery.
The literary superhero team-up film also featured Peta Wilson as Mina Harker, as well as Stuart Townsend as Dorian Gray, and Tom Sawyer, a character not in the comic who was added into the movie. John Davis was interested in making a female-centered version of the League with Mina Harker leading a different crew and a whole new cast, but it never got off the ground. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Haythe and company are returning to the core comic books for their take.
