The first high school athletes signed by Nike were soccer players, and sisters, Gisele and Alyssa Thompson, were signed by the brand.
Gisele is a sophomore at Harvard-Westlake high school in Los Angeles, and she and her friend, a junior, signed an undisclosed agreement just days after Nike announced deals with two other athletes. On Saturday, the Thompsons went to Nike and got a deal with the NIL.
The sisters play soccer for the U.S. national team.
The NCAA approved a policy to allow college student-athletes to profit off of their name, image and likeness. Athletes have been able to get agreements similar to the one Nike gave the Thompsons.
State laws and rules for high school athletes are formed by their high school associations.
Because the Thompson sisters are in California, they are able to profit off of their name, image and likeness while in high school.
