The price of life-saving treatment for children with severe wasting is going up because of the war in Ukraine.

The cost of treatment is set to go up by up to 16% over the next six months due to a sharp rise in the cost of raw ingredients.

Around 13.6 million children under the age of five are suffering from severe wasting, with at least 10 million of them not having access to the most effective treatment, according to Unicef.

According to Unicef estimates, India is the worst hit country with 5.8 million children affected by severe wasting, followed by Indonesia, Pakistan, Nigeria, and Bangladesh.

The agency said that rising costs could leave 600,000 children without access to treatment.

Unicef said that the costs for shipping and delivery are likely to remain high.
