A federal judge denied a request for a new trial from Christian Dawkins, who was convicted in the college basketball bribery case.
Dawkins' attorney requested a new trial in February after a former FBI agent admitted to gambling with $13,500 in government money at a Las Vegas casino. At the time, Haney argued that the admission of wrongdoing by Scott Carpenter should prompt a new trial.
The FBI agent's guilty plea and details surrounding his crimes were not new discovered according to the judge.
The judges in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York refused to allow questioning of the agent during the Dawkins trial. At the time, the government said that there were times when improper conduct happened and places unrelated to the investigation.
In his ruling Monday, Ramos wrote that the misconduct did not concern the defendants, did not occur in Dawkins's presence, and did not occur while the agents were engaged in investigative activities.
Dawkins was found guilty of paying bribes to players, their families and college coaches.
Dawkins has a scheduled release date of June 23, 2023, according to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.
