Tiger Woods said his injured right leg is stronger than it was at the Masters five weeks ago, when he struggled to climb the sloping hills of Augusta National Golf Club.
After playing the front nine on Sunday, Woods played his second nine-hole practice round on Monday at Southern Hills Country Club. His last win in the PGA Championship was in 2007.
The more I use it, the stronger it gets. I don't know if I will ever have full mobility. No. Never again. I will be able to get stronger. It is going to ache, but that is the way it is going to be.
In late April, Woods flew to Tulsa for a practice round. Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner renovated Southern Hills. Joe LaCava flew to Florida last week to work with Woods.
The Masters was the first regular tour event for Woods since he was seriously injured in a car wreck outside Los Angeles in February 2021. He made the cut at Augusta National and finished 47th after shooting 6-over 78 in the last two rounds. He was in pain after his rounds.
Woods would become the winningest golfer on the PGA Tour with 83 victories if he won the PGA Championship.
Woods said that he was excited about the week and that it would be fun to play and compete. There are only so many games you can play at home.
