The Chiriquí fire salamander is a new-to-science species.

It was found during an expedition to La Amistad International Park in Panama. One of the least explored regions of Central America is the mountain range between the western part of the country and Costa Rica. It is new to science, as determined by the group of people led by the man named Abel Batista.

It can be hard to tell a new species apart from its close relatives, but this salamander has a number of upper teeth and has a bright colour. The animal is different from other salamanders.
