Estonia's leader takes thinly-veiled swipe at Macron for calling Putin all the time

Kalls made a thinly-veiled jab at the French President for holding regular phone calls with Putin.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February, the French president has maintained an open line with Putin, most recently on May 3.

Kallas said world leaders speak to Putin.

Why talk to him? Kallas told the conference that he is a war criminal.

Kallas did not mention Macron by name, but her comments came the same day that Zelenskyy said that the efforts to influence Putin were futile.

According to a tally from Agence France-Presse, in the early weeks of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the French President made 10 calls to Putin that lasted a total of 20 hours.

Zelenskyy said in the interview that he was ready to talk to Putin.

The Italian Prime Minister tried to speak to Putin after the invasion of Ukraine, but he said it was useless and a waste of time.
