The startup is called Curious Thing. The voice communication platform can call people and ask them questions like "How are you feeling today?" and "How does it feel compared to yesterday?"
The company was founded by CEO Sam Zheng, CTO Dr. Han Xu, and chief strategy officer David Mckeague. The platform has processed more than three million minutes of conversations. Foodpanda, Quitline, Medibank, Brighte, Humm Group, and several state and local governments are its clients.
Instead of answering questions like "what is the weather today?", we thought, can we build an artificial intelligence that is designed to ask open-context questions and derive insights from people?
He said that the voice phone call carries the right characteristic of being proactive and prompt to encourage customers to share more.
In the health sector, it is used for daily check-ins on patients. The company worked with multiple state governments in Australia to call COVID patients about their situation and symptoms so they could get the right kind of support. Customer feedback collection, information validation, payment reminders, and onboarding assistance are some of the use cases of Curious Thing.

Part of the new funding will be used to expand in Southeast Asia and the United States, as 85% of Curious Thing's revenue currently comes from Australia. The company plans to hire for its tech team.
