The series has had its share of ups and downs, but the hype for the upcoming fourth season is very real. It's only a matter of time before everyone gets together to deal with the big new evil that threatens the world unless they can put an end to it.

Vecna is a powerful godlike Lich from the game D&Ds. In the new season, Vecna and Eddie, a D&D nerd played by Joseph Quinn, are two of the key players. At the premiere party last night, the cast went even further in building up Vecna's threat, compared to previous seasons. David Harbour, who plays surrogate dad Hopper, described him to Variety as a different breed of horror for the series, and even went so far as to call him the overall big bad that the series has needed.

Harbour acknowledged that the Upside Down has been a wild west world where there are creatures running around.

The character is brought to life using mostly practical effects. In April, Ross Duffer stressed the importance of practical effects for the actors to really sell their terror, and the character's look comes from an artist who worked on Game of Throne. As a fan of old horror movies and practical effects, he was very into a real Vecna to play off of during filming.

Vecna's debut would shake up the tone of the series and both Priah Ferguson and Gaten Matarazzo promised that. He brings a whole new vibe to how we deal with our villains, and how we will continue to do so going forward.

The first part of the fourth season of the show will be released on May 27.
