All-Star guard Ja Morant is going to sign a contract extension with the Memphis Grizzlies.
The general manager and vice president of basketball operations made that very clear Sunday. The second-best record in the NBA and the highest playoff seeding in the Western Conference were both achieved by Memphis. Golden State eliminated Memphis in the semifinals.
Kleiman said that there will be no issues with paying anyone who we want to pay.
Kleiman said that Robert Pera wants that. Despite being one of the NBA's small-market teams, the goal of the Memphis team is to win a championship. Morant was ninth in the league for merchandise sales.
Kleiman, this season's NBA Executive of the Year, said they were not worried about small-market notions.
Morant, who was the second overall pick in the draft, was an All-Star starter and the NBA's Most Improved Player this season. Morant is eligible for a five-year extension.
Kleiman made it clear that he wants Morant to stay in Memphis for a long time.
Kleiman said that he would say what the plans would be for Ja.
The desire of Morant is to keep the Grizzlies intact.
I am happy to be here. Morant knows that his contract situation will be a hot topic this summer. It's true.
