The 60th anniversary of Doctor Who will see David Tennant and Catherine Tate return to the show. The scenes that are being filmed are going to air in 2023.

The Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble were played by Tate and Tennant, respectively. The Doctor has made a return in the past, with the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special in 2013 featuring David Tennant and Rose Tyler.

We don't know what kind of plot twist will bring the Time Lord and Noble back together. Russell T. Davies, who served as Doctor Who's showrunner during the Tenth Doctor's run, will reprise his role for the show's upcoming installments. Davies doesn't give us any details on how the two will get back together, but he does offer a number of possibilities.

They’re back! And it looks impossible — first, we announce a new Doctor, and then an old Doctor, along with the wonderful Donna, what on earth is happening? Maybe this is a missing story. Or a parallel world. Or a dream, or a trick, or a flashback. The only thing I can confirm is that it’s going to be spectacular, as two of our greatest stars reunite for the battle of a lifetime.

Jodie Whittaker was replaced as Doctor Who's Fourteenth Doctor by Ncuti Gatwa. Gatwa will make his debut on the series later this year in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the British Broadcasting Corporation. We will have to wait and see what role he will play in the episode.
