According to a report from Liliput, handheld maker Aya Neo is adding the Aya Neo 2 and Aya Neo Slide to its lineup of portable PC gaming devices, both of which are set to come with an upgraded Ryzen 7 6800U chip and a Radeon 680M integrated graphics card. More than double the 1.6 teraflops delivered by the Steam Deck, the Radeon 680M iGPU is capable of pushing 3.38 Teraflops.
Tom's Hardware pointed out that the Zen 3 plus architecture allows the Ryzen 7 6800 to run with eight cores. It comes with the integrated Radeon 680M iGPU, which has 12 compute units. The Steam Deck has an older Zen 2 architecture and an iGPU with RDNA 2 graphics and eight CUs. We won't know for sure if the Neo 2 and Neo Slide can beat the steam deck until we see them in action.
Both the Neo 2 and the Slide will have support for LPDDR5-6400 RAM, but the Neo 2 will also have a variety of other features. The exterior of the device has also been updated. The harder edges of the Neo 2 are swapped for more rounded corners, making it look like the Aya Neo Next device the company released earlier this year. It has an updated dark / light gray color scheme that reminds me of Nintendo's classic consoles.
The Neo Slide has an even more interesting design. The name implies that the screen slides up to reveal a backlit keyboard, similar to a larger version of the Motorola Droid 4. It would be cool to slide up your screen and start typing to your friends without having to stop playing.
The release dates for the Neo Slide and Neo 2 weren't provided by Aya Neo, but they are coming later this year. The starting price of the Steam Deck is less than half of the price of the devices. There will obviously be a trade-off when it comes to performance if we see pricing that is closer to the Steam Deck with the upcoming entry-level Neo Air.
