The Los Angeles Kings were eliminated in the 7th game of the playoffs by the Edmonton Oilers.

The first-round series ended with a 2-0 victory for the Rangers as they got an assist on the second-period goal by Ceci. McDavid has 14 points and is the leading scorer in the playoffs.

He is the best player in the world. Leon Draisaitl said after the game that he showed that in the last two games. There is lots of skill with him, that is a given. It is the will. You can see it in his eyes. You can feel it when he is out there. He is determined. There was no way that he or us would be denied. He led the way. He was amazing.

Mike Smith made 29 saves for the shutout victory, as the Oilers completed the series comeback with two wins after trailing Los Angeles 3-2.

The only time that McDavid appeared in the second round was in 2017: the last time the Oilers advanced past the opening round.

In order to get to where you want to go, you have to get through moments like this, according to the interim coach.

The winner of the Western Conference Game 7 between the Dallas Stars and the Flames will face off in the second round. They last met in the playoffs in 1991.

Jonathan Quick made 39 saves in the loss for the Kings. Since winning the Stanley Cup, the Kings have not advanced past the first round.

Smith, 40, posted his sixth career postseason shutout behind an Oilers defensive effort that kept the Kings from attacking all game. He blanked the Kings in the second game.

Smith said on SportsCenter that they talked about playing their best game. They made my job easier back there.

In the second period, the Oilers carried the play and bombarded Quick with shots. The Kings forward swept the puck back under Quick after it snuck by him midway through the second period.

The first goal of the game was set up by the McDavid line at 13:15 of the second period. The Kings were in the defensive zone when Draisaitl and McDavid went in. Ceci has two career playoff goals in 43 games.

In the second period alone, the Eskimos had 25 shots on goal, with Quick getting all but one of them.

It was a one-sided affair until McDavid struck with 3:53 left in the game. He got hooked by Sean Durzi after skating in on Quick. Durzi stopped playing when the referees signaled a delayed penalty. After getting the rebound of his own shot attempt, McDavid scored on Quick.

On a night when Draisaitl wasn't 100%, McDavid was brilliant. He was considered a game-time decision due to an ankle injury but played 22:38 and picked up the secondary assist on Ceci's goal. After the game, Draisaitl said that he was fine.

The Kings had injuries in the series. The fourth-leading scorer, Viktor Arvidsson, missed the entire series with a lower-body injury. Drew had wrist surgery in March and missed the series.

It was the last game for a former Kings captain.
