A heavily armed white 18-year-old man entered a Tops Friendly Markets store in a predominantly Black neighborhood and unloaded a fusillade of bullets.

He identifies as a white supremacist.

Reports show Gendron was dressed in body armor and wore camouflage. The shooter broadcasted his attack on the platform.

The victims were all black and white.

It was a straight-up, racially motivated hate crime from someone outside of our community, who was trying to hurt us, as the mayor said, coming into our community and trying to hurt us.

Gendron pleaded not guilty to the charges. The highest murder charge in the state is in Erie County. Flynn wanted the suspect to be in court Saturday night.

We are investigating terrorism charges, other murder charges, and working with our partners in the federal government to possibly file charges as well. Flynn assured everyone that justice is being done and that justice will be done.

Gendron drove hours away from his home in New York to commit the crime, according to Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia.

He killed three people in the store's parking lot before shooting and killing a retired police officer inside. Customers and employees were killed by Gendron. The man surrendered to police after he put the gun to his own neck.

It's like walking onto a horror movie, but not real. The police official at the scene told Buffalo News that it was like Armageddon.

A woman told reporters that she saw the suspect shoot a woman in the store. Will G., a dairy worker, told the Buffalo News that he heard shots while he was getting milk. They hid in the cooler.

Some people who hid near cash register did not escape the killer.

Others went to the store to look for their loved ones and co-workers.

I heard shots. It sounded like things were falling over.

The suspect ignored the commands of the officers before they took him down.

Gendron is charged with felony murder and faces life without parole. The suspect must return to court in five days for a felony hearing after the forensic examination was ordered by the judge.

Gendron's home was searched by law enforcement officials Saturday evening. ABC News reports that investigators are combing through a 106-page manifesto that shows admiration for Dylann Roof and the New Zealand mosque shooter.

According to reports, Gendron grew more radical over the past three years, with his online manifesto showing he developed racist views in recent years. The New York Times reports that Gendron had been preparing for the massacre for a long time. He held target practice and stocked up on gear. Gendron started following anonymous chatter on the white replacement theory in May 2020.

If there is one thing I want you to get from these writings, it is that White birth rates must change. According to the manifesto, the White population becomes less in number every day.

The layout of the store was created by Gendron.

The self-proclaimed white supremacist mapped out his parking space, picked the spot where he would start his live stream, and made a meal plan. He planned to kill the security guard and shoot the Black shoppers if he could.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul demanded that social media companies be held accountable for allowing hate speech on their platforms.

A community was shattered by an individual, a white supremacist, who has engaged in an act of terrorism and will be prosecuted as such in a cold-hearted, calculated way, a military-style execution targeting people who simply want to buy groceries in a neighborhood store.

The video was taken down within two minutes.

  • Authorities said the suspect, who was armed with an assault-style rifle and appeared to have acted alone, drove to Buffalo from his home in a New York county hours away to target the store. The 13 people who were struck by gunfire were all black, and officials said it was a hate crime. They didn't immediately name him because they wanted to avoid giving him a celebrity. When confronted by officers in the store, the suspect held a gun to his own neck, but they talked him into dropping the weapon and surrendering.
