The country is waiting for a decision from the Supreme Court on the future of abortion.

The groups were formed in response to a leaked draft opinion on a current Mississippi abortion law case. The opinion would overturn the protections established by the Wade decision. The reproductive justice advocates say that a frightening reversal would threaten the lives of many pregnant people, and could have long-term repercussions on the right to privacy.

The people took to the streets to protest. The May 14 Bans Off Our Bodies Day of Action was organized by the Women's March.

Groups gathered around the country, including a march outside of the Supreme Court building. Thousands of protesters were expected in Washington, D.C., alone. Individuals were asked to sign the Bans Off Our Bodies petition.

Two privacy precedents at the center of abortion rights could be affected by the Supreme Court decision. The first of which is the Roe decision, which determined that restrictive state abortion laws were unconstitutional and opened up a wave of reproductive justice activism.

160 celebrities signed onto a May 13 document condemning the leaked decision and demanding government leaders step in to protect reproductive rights.

The Supreme Court justices met for the first time since the leak on May 12th, which critics say is a betrayal of the public's trust in the court. A final decision won't be made until after the court's session ends in June or July. The Senate tried to lay down federal law regarding abortion access after a Republican filibuster.
