The AP and the Buffalo News reported that at least three people were injured when a man walked into a Tops Friendly Market and opened fire.

The retired Buffalo police officer was working as a security guard at the store when he died.

The Buffalo Police Department said officers were on scene at a Tops location in northeast Buffalo.

An unnamed Buffalo police official told the Buffalo News that the scene was like walking onto a horror movie, but everything is real.

Buffalo Police did not respond to a request for comment from Forbes about how many people were injured in the shooting.

The suspected shooter's motive in the attack has not been released by police.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said she was closely watching the shooting at a grocery store in Buffalo.

The shooting in Buffalo happened over a year after a shooting at a King Soopers grocery store in Boulder, Colorado, left 10 people dead. The suspect in the Boulder shooting was found incompetent to stand trial.
