Delaware is small and has a close proximity to major airports in Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington.

Delaware became the only state without commercial airline service.

VERTISING

Frontier Airlines told the Delaware Journal on Friday that it is leaving New Castle Airport after its last flight on June 6.

There wasn't enough demand to support the service, according to a statement from Frontier.

Frontier has tried New Castle before. The airport was serviced for two years. There were twice-weekly flights from Frontier to the Magic Kingdom. It lasted less than two years.

Jim Salmon said in a statement that he hopes the merger of Frontier and Spirit Airlines will convince the airline to return to New Castle.

He said that they were hopeful that the airline would choose to restore service in Delaware as a result of the merger.

The airport is located along the busy I-95 corridor and has the lowest cost operating environment of any airport in the US.
