Democratic lawmakers accused Rep. Stefanik of wanting to deprive babies of food in response to her comments on infant formula.

As American families face empty shelves, Joe Biden continues to put America LAST by shipping baby formula to the southern border. This is not acceptable. American mothers and their babies shouldn't suffer because of the #BidenBorderCrisis, says the third top Republican in the House.

There was a wave of Republican outrage over claims that baby formula was being sent to holding facilities while the US faces a nationwide shortage.

Some Democrats jumped on his comments.

Do we just starve these babies? asked Rep. Ruben Gallego of Arizona. The parents are locked up and cannot shop for an alternative. Do you mean for the government to deliberately starve children?

If you are in Congress and propose starving babies to death, you deserve to have your name trend.

A representative did not respond to the request for comment.

In the US, baby formula shortages began months ago and grew worse in April. In some states, more than 50% of infant formula products were out of stock by the end of the month.

The White House plans to address the shortage.

It is not known when or how much infant formula has been sent to immigration facilities.

Customs and Border Protection takes seriously its legal responsibility to ensure the safety and security of individuals in its custody, according to a statement provided to Insider on Thursday. Ensuring migrants, including children and infants, in our custody have their basic needs met is in line with this Administration's commitment to ensuring safe, orderly, and humane processes at our border.
