According to a report from The Athletic, the hearing for the grievances of Major League Baseball players will begin on May 23.

The previous longest suspension since the policy was implemented in August 2015 was 281 games, and was for violating the domestic violence policy. Bauer is the first player to appeal a suspension under the policy.

Bauer denied committing any violation of the league's domestic violence and sexual assault policy. The confidentiality of the proceedings is respected by my representatives and I.

Bauer was accused of sexual assault by a San Diego woman who requested a restraining order, and she alleged that he took consensual rough sex too far over the course of two encounters last April and May. In August, a Los Angeles judge denied the woman a permanent restraining order.

The Washington Post published an interview with a woman from Columbus, Ohio, who accused the pitcher of choking her unconscious without her consent dozens of times during their years-long relationship. She became the third known woman to accuse Bauer of sexual assault and speak with league investigators about it, following another Ohio woman who sought a temporary restraining order against Bauer in June 2020, according to the Post.

MLB did not say how many accusers it spoke with or reveal the findings of its investigation.

The mechanism of the hearing will be similar to the ones that have taken place before for other matters, such as the suspensions of Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Braun. The MLB and the MLB Players Association hired a third-party to review the findings and preside over a hearing that could last several months. The suspension of Bauer will be decided by the arbitrator.

The Dodgers signed Bauer to a three-year, $102 million contract in February of 2021, two months after he won the National League Cy Young Award as a member of the Cincinnati Reds. He was placed on administrative leave midway through the first year of his contract and remained there until the league decided on its suspension three weeks into the 2021 season.

Bauer did not agree to the suspension so the games he served on administrative leave will not count. Bauer will not be allowed to return until the 19th game of the 2024 season if his suspension is upheld. Bauer will not be allowed to pitch in another country while he is on the restricted list. $60 million would be saved by the Dodgers under his current suspension.
