There is an update regarding one of the most anticipated luxury hotel openings in the United States, as an official opening date has finally been set, but I am suspicious.
Aman will be opening a hotel in New York City on 57th and 5th in the Crown Building.
Aman New York was supposed to open in 2020. In early 2020 the hotel's status was listed as opening soon, but no specific date was given.
Aman sent out an email with a further update. Aman New York will open on August 2, 2022, and the hotel will begin accepting reservations on July 25, 2022, according to the statement.
For most of the past two years there hasn't been much demand for New York City hotel rooms. New York and Miami were not during the Pandemic.
The recent delays are a bit confusing.
The suites at Aman New York will be a minimum of 750 square feet, which is huge in New York City. The fireplace is a cool feature that you don't find in many hotels.
The property was designed by Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston, and it is said that the property will pay for the brand's Asian roots.
There will be 22 private residences at Aman New York, ranging in size from one to six bedrooms. Private pools will be one of the things that many will feature. The first Aman branded residences will be a five story penthouse.
The hotel has a 25,000 square foot spa, a wine library, a jazz club, and an Italian restaurant.
This will be the third Aman property in the US, and it will be the second Aman city in the world after Aman Tokyo.
The Aman New York property has some pictures.
The hotel doesn't plan on accepting reservations until a week prior to opening, though it is only a few months from opening. I can't help but wonder how much this property is aiming for in terms of pricing, as I would imagine this will be New York City's most expensive hotel.
The hotel doesn't have many rooms, but each room is large enough to be a suite in New York City.
If I had to guess, I would say that the base rooms will start around $2,000 per night. I could be wrong, but I can also see it being more expensive.
At least in leisure destinations that are open, luxury hotel pricing is the highest it has ever been. The current situation doesn't seem sustainable for many hotels, so only time will tell how this will evolve.
I would love to hear other people's guesses on this.
I have said it before and I will say it again. I don't think city hotels will be the essence of Aman. I'm curious to see what Aman New York can do for the Aman experience.
The service standards in Tokyo are different from those in New York.
No other hotel brand would dare to open a property in a location like Aman's. The brand has sold out, with upcoming properties in Los Cabos, Miami, and Niseko. Saudi Arabia is the only unique property in the current slate.
Aman New York will open on August 2, 2022. This is the first time we have an exact opening date, but I'm a bit suspicious because the hotel only plans on opening reservations as of July 25. If the hotel planned to open then that wouldn't be a normal practice.
It will be the third Aman property in the United States and the second Aman property in the world. The dining venues and spa will be amazing, and the hotel looks spectacular.
What do you think about the opening of Aman New York, and what are your expectations?
