United Airlines and its pilots have reached an agreement on new contract terms, the first of the major carriers to strike a deal since the start of the Pandemic. The crisis made a pilot shortage and training backlog worse.
The Air Line Pilots Association and United didn't reveal the terms of the deal on Friday, but they will likely include higher pay and other improvements.
United struck early deals with the pilots unions of the major carriers to keep pilots on staff and trained during the Pandemic.
Scott Kirby said in a post that United Airlines was the only airline to reach an agreement with the pilots union.
The agreement needs to be approved by the union and pilots.
The pilot unions of Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines and American Airlines have organized pickets in recent months to protest their schedules.
United is not immune to the pilot shortage. The shortage of pilots that fly for the smaller regional carriers has forced the Chicago-based airline to cut back on routes and park planes.
On Friday at 1 p.m. A hearing on the future aviation workforce will be held at the United Aviate Academy, United's new flight school.
