A Seattle couple left their home and their jobs to live on a cruise ship with just one suitcase.

Angelyn and Richard have been living on cruises since May last year and say it's cheaper than paying off their mortgage.

Angelyn, a former accountant, told Australia's 7News earlier this week that they were searching for a way to travel in their retirement that made financial sense.

The pair, who are in their 50s, have traveled the world on different cruise ships, including a 51-day trip from Seattle to Australia, the outlet said. Singapore, Italy, Canada, and the Bahamas are some of their favorite ports of call.

Angelyn told CNN that she tries to stay on the same ship as long as possible.

The couple has enough money to spend up to $135 per day, but it often works out to be less than that.

She told the outlet that this year they have secured 86 cruise days with an average cost of $89 per day for both of them.

She said that taking advantage of loyalty programs has helped the couple secure major discounts on trips.

The average home value in Seattle is almost $1 million, and the cost of homes in the area has increased over the past year. The average monthly cost of a 30-year fixed mortgage with a 20% down payment in the city is about $60,000 a year.

Angelyn told 7News that they don't plan to live permanently on land in the future.
