A Pennsylvania mother is suing TikTok and its parent company for suggesting a challenge to her daughter. The girl died after taking part in the dare.

According to a complaint filed on Thursday, Tawainna Anderson said her daughter participated in a blackout challenge after it appeared on her recommendation page.

The blackout challenge requires participants to choke themselves with household items until they black out. They share a recording of the process with other TikTok users.

According to the complaint, Anderson rushed Nylah to the hospital after finding her motionless in her bedroom. The girl died five days later.

According to the court document, TikTok determined that the Blackout Challenge was well-tailored and likely to be of interest to Nylah. That was the cause of her death, according to the document.

According to the suit, the challenge resulted in at least four other deaths, but TikTok didn't correct its algorithm to prevent users from being exposed to it.

The TikTok Defendants failed to take necessary corrective action because it would result in less user engagement on the app and less corporate profits, according to the complaint.

A TikTok spokesman told the New York Post in December that there was a "disturbing" challenge which people seem to learn about from other sources.

An attorney for Anderson said that a forensic analysis of the mobile phone of Nylah showed that she was using TikTok for the challenge.

The company is not commenting on the lawsuit, according to a TikTok spokesman. A search for the #blackoutchallenge on TikTok did not show up on Friday.

Most of the major social media platforms have been challenged.

The milk crate challenge was filmed last year by TikTok users, in which they climbed milk crates stacked in a pyramid. The videos of them doing common tasks blindfolded were shared by them. The Tide Pod challenge was a challenge where young people were challenged to eat laundry detergent capsule and post their reactions on social media. The videos were taken down by Facebook, YouTube, andInstagram.
