The Warner Bros. Dune franchise has a new leader. The sequel to the sci-fi series will feature Christopher Walken. The Emperor's daughter Princess Irulan and the villain of House Harkonnen were cast by him. The ensemble of Dune: Part I includes some familiar faces.
The first book in Frank Herbert's Dune series was adapted by Villeneuve. The first half of the story is covered in part I, which introduces the audience to the dense mythology of the story. In the sequel, we will likely see Paul and Jessica immerse themselves among the Fremen while Arrakis falls into political turmoil during another hostile takeover by House Harkonnen. With the actor selected, we are very excited to see his take on the character.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Villeneuve said that the film is coming up fast and that a lot of the work has been done. We are not starting from scratch. I will try to face that challenge because it is important for me that the audience sees Part Two as soon as possible. It isn't a sequel where it is another episode or a story with the same characters. Direct continuity to the first movie is what it has. I'm trying to do the second part of a big movie. The sooner the better.
Dune: Part 2 will be released in October of 2023.
