Kleiman is the youngest ever to win the NBA Basketball Executive of the Year award.

Kleiman is the second executive to receive the honor. The award was won by Jerry West in the 2003-04 season. Kleiman became the general manager and executive vice president of basketball operations.

The GM received 16 of 29 first-place votes and 85 points. Cleveland president Koby Altman and Chicago executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas were tied for second. Miami president Pat Riley and Phoenix general manager James Jones were tied for fourth.

Kleiman put together a roster that had the second-best record in the NBA at 56-26, tying the franchise record for wins in a single season. The second seed in the Western Conference is the highest in franchise history.

The Most Improved Player award went to Ja Morant. The coach of the year is voted on by the voters. Kleiman drafted Morant with the second pick.

Kleiman joined Memphis in 2015 as in-house legal counsel and was promoted to assistant general manager for the season. He worked at an international law firm.
