An executive at Facebook told the company's Reality Labs division to expect a cutback announcement soon due to no longer being able to afford it.
The Reality Labs staffers were told that the company couldn't afford some projects and would need to delay others, though the specific efforts on the chopping block remain unknown. The drama comes just weeks after CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company intends to slow the pace of its larger investments.
This news came on the heels of reports that Facebook is slowing hiring amid mounting costs for its Metaverse, which has been glitchy, lackluster, and rife with abuse and scam.
The company changed its name to Meta last year and its stock has plummeted. It seems that all has gone downhill for the company since then.
