According to an internal memo shared with employees on Thursday, two of the company's leaders are leaving as part of a shake-up of top executives.

According to a memo obtained by The New York Times, Kayvon Beykpour is leaving and will be replaced by Jay Sullivan. The interim general manager is Mr. Sullivan. Bruce Falck is leaving the company.

It's critical to have the right leaders at the right time, according to the memo to staff. Product vision, ability to inspire, move quickly and drive change are what Mr. Sullivan has to offer.

The truth is that this isn’t how and when I imagined leaving Twitter, and this wasn’t my decision. Parag asked me to leave after letting me know that he wants to take the team in a different direction.

The company is not currently planning layoffs, but is pausing most new hiring and pulling back on discretionary spending, according to a memo. The company is not hitting goals in audience and revenue growth.

Since Mr. Musk struck a deal to buy the social media service, there has been uproar. The billionaire, who also runs the electric carmaker and rocket company, has said that he wants to improve the product. He has criticized some of the top executives at the service for the way they have moderated speech.

Mr. Musk is expected to close the deal for Twitter in the next few months. In a pitch to investors, he said he wants toquintuple the company's revenue by 2028 and grow its users to over one billion.
