Naomi Judd took her own life by shooting herself in the head, and her daughter explained how her mom couldn't process the love her friends, family and colleagues had for her.

The day before Naomi was in the Country Music Hall of Fame, she spoke with Diane Sawyer about her death.

She explained that she was tasked with an exceedingly difficult task in revealing the matter to my mother because we don't want it to be part of her life.

It was a mixed day, but she said she was the one who discovered Naomi's body. I visit with my mom and pop every day when I'm home in Tennessee, so I was at the house visiting as I am every day. I went upstairs to let her know that her friend was there and I discovered her. I have both grief and trauma from discovering her.

There was a discrepancy between the way Naomi felt about herself and the way the outside world felt for her. Naomi felt self-doubt because of the mental illness.

She said that their mother couldn't hang on until she was in the Hall of Fame. That was the level of catastrophe that was going on inside her.

She explained that she wanted to put a spotlight on mental illness. To make the distinction between mental illness and our loved one is very important. It is very real and it lies.
