A ground-breaking discovery about our Milky Way galaxy is set to be made this morning. The team hasn't given any details about what they're announcing, but the news will be streamed at 9AM.

The first picture ever taken of a black hole's shadow was revealed by the event horizon telescope team in 2019. The team showed off an image of a black hole located in the center of a galaxy. It was a huge undertaking to observe the black hole for a week in April of last year, using eight radio telescopes around the world, and then putting that data together with the help of supercomputers.

the group could reveal another spectacular black hole image

It is possible that the group could reveal another spectacular black hole image, but this time, they would show one in our own galaxy. The black hole in the center of the Milky Way was observed by the EHT team in April of last year. The size of the black hole and interference between Earth and the object made it more difficult for the scientists to piece together that image. The team may have overcome the processing issues five years later.
